The Association of Advanced Professional Game Angling
Instructors (AAPGAI)
Certificate is internationally recognised as one of
the premier fly fishing instructional qualifications
in the world today.
AAPGAI are the guardians of the technical standards
of fly casting instruction in the UK and its members,
many of whom work in the tackle industry, actively
participate in Continuous Professional Development
to ensure technical and instructional currency.
Prior to being assessed for the AAPGAI qualification
a candidate must first hold a national fly casting
instructors certificate. I hold the Scottish Game
Angling Instructors Certificate (SGAIC).
More recently, thanks to the generosity of three
fellow instructors, I had the opportunity to become
a Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF)
Certified Casting Instructor and am now fortunate
enough to hold qualifications on both sides of the
Atlantic.
I also have been lucky enough to live in Eastern
and Western Canada for 4 years where I guided for
both Trout and Salmon. Let me use my Canadian experience
and knowledge to either provide you with a consultancy
service to enhance a family holiday or host you on
a once in a lifetime Canadian fly fishing experience.
Many children today, mine included, live in an artificial
‘PlayStation’ world and have little appreciation
of the countryside around them. Fly fishing is a superb
teaching medium for introducing children to the countryside
and life skills such as environmental awareness and
patience. Parents and teachers may be reassured by
the fact that I am background checked, by the police,
and accredited for working with young people. I also
hold a first aid certificate.
In addition to over 30 years of fishing experience
I have a considerable instructional history where
I have taught such diverse skills as squash skills,
map reading and jungle warfare and survival!
There is no substitute for professional tuition,
contact a professional instructor and see how your
enjoyment of the sport improves.
